Why balancing motorcycle tyres is important

Many people underestimate the impact of imbalance on two-wheeled vehicles. While a slight vibration in the steering wheel of a car is often ignored, imbalance in a motorbike can have fatal consequences. It leads to unstable handling, "shimmy" effect (handlebar vibration) and increased wear on the chassis. That is why balancing motorbike tyres is the most important step for us after fitting.

In our workshop, we use precise balancing stands and machines to adjust the concentricity exactly. Thanks to our work on racing motorcycles, we are extremely sensitive to even the smallest deviations. When we change tyres on a motorcycle, we also pay meticulous attention to the direction of travel and the manufacturer's balance mark (the "match point") in order to use as few weights as possible.

Motorcycle tyre service: the safety check

A motorcycle tyre service at ASD Group always includes a quick safety check. Once we have removed the wheel, we have a clear view of components that are otherwise hidden. We take a trained look at the brake pads, check the brake pistons for smooth operation and check the wheel bearings for play. The chain tensioner and rear wheel alignment are also precisely adjusted during installation.

We don't see ourselves as a tyre discounter that's only interested in volume, but as a technical partner. When you have your motorcycle tyres changed by us, you leave with the peace of mind that a professional has done the job. We are also happy to advise you on the correct air pressure for your intended use – because this has a significant impact on how the tyre performs and how long it lasts.

Can I bring my own tyres?

In principle, this is possible. We will then only charge for fitting and balancing. However, we can often source the tyres for you directly at very attractive prices – simply enquire without obligation before ordering online.

Do you also remove and refit the wheels?

Yes, our motorcycle tyre service includes complete wheel removal and installation on request. You bring us your motorcycle and we take care of the rest, including chain tension and torque checks.

How long does it take to change a tyre?

If you bring in the wheels that have already been removed, the process is often very quick (approx. 20–30 minutes per wheel). If we have to remove the wheels ourselves, we allow a little more time. Please make an appointment in good time during the season.

Do you also balance spoked wheels?

Yes, we can balance cast rims and spoked wheels. With spoked wheels, we also check roughly whether any spokes are loose, but we do not completely re-centre them as part of our tyre service (this is a separate service).

Which tyres should I choose for my motorbike?

That depends greatly on your riding style. A super sports tyre has great grip, but does not last long and needs to be warmed up. A touring tyre also performs well in wet and cold conditions. We would be happy to advise you based on our experience as to which tyre is the best compromise for you.
